Endometriosis is the emergence and growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, especially in the pelvic cavity, ovaries, behind the uterus, uterine ligaments, the bladder or bowel.

It is a relatively common disease that can affect any woman of childbearing age. Endometriosis impairs quality of life of women with the disease, affecting their relationships, family, work and play.
